Tintern Abbey was founded by William Marshal c. 1200. Known as the Greatest Knight, Marshals impact is visible all across the south-east. From the Colclough Library the visitor has a wonderful view across Bannow Bay. The Abbey was founded for the Cistercian order and the monks lived and worked here for centuries. After the dissolution of the religious houses, the Abbey came into the possession of the Colclough family. Knights, monks and scoundrels, lawmakers, law breakers and custodians, Tintern Abbey had them all – come visit and find out much more.
